Teagasc - Agriculture and Food Development Authority |
||
Profile | Teagasc is a state body that was established in 1988. Its mission is to support science-based innovation in the agri-food sector and wider bio-economy. As the leading public sector organisation in the fields of agriculture and food research in Ireland, Teagasc undertakes activities in research, knowledge dissemination and education under the following key programme areas: Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation; Crops, Environment and Land Use; Food; Rural Economy and Development. Johnstown Castle is Ireland’s leading research centre for soils and the rural environment and conducts research on soils, nutrient efficiency, recovery and losses, air and water quality and agro-ecology. Research results are used widely by advisors, farmers, scientists and policy makers. It is home to Ireland’s Soil Information System, the National Soil Database and the National Soil Library. In addition, it has state-of-the-art laboratory facilities in order to support the research programme with soil, water, plant, air and microbiological analyses.

Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust - Allerton Project |
||
Profile | The GWCT is a 333ha research and demonstration farm at Loddington, central England. Established in 1992, the Allerton Project carries out research into a wide range of agri-environmental issues at a range of scales from experimental plot to landscape, and is actively involved in the development of practical management options. This is achieved through collaborations between the small research team at Loddington and a range of other research organizations. The project runs its own farm business, ensuring a practical context for research, and has an active programme of dissemination activities for farmers, land owners, advisors, regulators, and policy makers. The eco-build visitor centre is also used by the local community, and local farmer networks are a key element of knowledge exchange activities.

Profile | AU-AGRO is renowned for its integrated agro-ecological research and dissemination on sustainable land management practices. AU-AGRO has large expertise in studying nutrient cycling and the physical, chemical and biological processes in the soil and farming system, including studies in several unique long-term field experiments. AU-AGRO has broad competences in analyzing the consequences of agricultural land use changes, agricultural and rural development policies, including schemes for the protection of soils, climate, nature and the environment. The core competences include GEO database analyses, modelling in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), methods for stakeholder involvement and the upscaling and generalization of information on agriculture and the environment in support of multi criteria decision making. Moreover, he experiences include hosting and coordination of landscape and farm site studies, and methods for environmental indicators- and impact assessment of land use changes. |
