Yesterday, March 22nd 2016, the world was shocked by the terrible news of terrorist attacks in Brussels. Only last week the kick-off meeting of our SoilCare project was held in Leuven, only 30 km away from Brussels. Many participants of the meeting travelled through Zaventem airport to reach our meeting.
We, as coordination team of the SoilCare project, express our sympathy and condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims of this terrible attack. Our thoughts also go out to the Belgian people and especially our colleagues and friends of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Bodemkundige Dienst Belgie and Milieu. We want to let them know we stand beside them in these difficult times, and wish them the courage to continue all day life.

The SoilCare project kick-off meeting was held from 14-18 March 2016 in Leuven, Belgium. More than 60 scientists representing all 28 partners in the project took part in the meeting that was successfully closed on Friday, March 18th.
During the week of the meeting, time was spent on making detailed plans for the first 1.5 years of the project. Also, time was spent on getting to know each other better, something that is essential in such a large, international project. On Thursday, an excursion that visited several locations in the Belgian study site took place.
The coordination team is currently busy organising all material resulting from the meeting. The meeting presentations, Study Site posters and notes will be made available on this website. Later, also a number of video recordings of important presentations will be made available as well.

Yesterday afternoon, the contract for the SOILCARE project was signed by Prof. Louise O. Fresco, Director of the Executive Board of Wageningen University and Research. A few hours later, the contract was counter-signed by the European Commission.
This means that now the project has started officially, with a starting date of March 1st 2016.
The Grant Agreement can now be electronically signed by the SOILCARE partners in the Participant Portal. All partners have received notification e-mails from the Participant Portal system.
